Momentum is building.
First Nations from across BC are coming together to send a strong signal to the Crown and resource industries that the continued infringement of Aboriginal Title and Rights will not be tolerated.
The Moving Forward in Unity events of May 17 through 20 were the next stage in the development of the growing Title & Rights Alliance. (See photos.)
The events began with a caravan from communities throughout BC, and concluded in a rally at the closing of the Legislature. The conference on May 19 at the Pearkes Recreation Centre was the third meeting of Title & Rights Alliance supporters.
At the conference, the Steering Committe leaders spoke, as did legal advisors who talked of the opportunities recent court victories create, and the dangers of accepting the government'd divide and conquer strategy, which currently centres around Forest & Range Agreements (see the backgrounder on FRAs).
Support is growing: 300 attended the Kelowna meeting in September, and 500 joined us in Prince George.
More than 1,000 leaders and community members participated in the conference on May 19, and more than 2,500 attended the rally on May 20.
